Environmental Manager – Energy & Infrastructure
Location: North Scotland / Various Project Locations
Salary: Up to £60,000 DOE + flexibility for the right candidate
Working Pattern: Site-based, with a rotation available for candidates living further afield
Are you an experienced Environmental Manager looking for your next opportunity within major energy and infrastructure projects?
We are currently working with a growing environmental team delivering a significant portfolio of energy transmission, substation, overhead line and renewable infrastructure projects across the north of Scotland.
This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to take a lead role across a diverse project portfolio, working closely with project and site management teams to drive environmental compliance, sustainability and best practice.
The Opportunity
As Environmental Manager, you will provide environmental leadership across a range of major infrastructure projects, ensuring robust environmental controls are in place and projects are delivered in line with regulatory, contractual and company requirements.
The portfolio includes projects across:
- Thurso and the surrounding area, including substation, HVDC converter and extension works
- Carrig, Bonar Bridge and Edderton
- Major overhead line works connecting key substations
- Wider energy projects including Berryburn, Blackhillock, Elchies, Clashgowar and Coire Glas
With a substantial and growing workload, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced environmental professional looking to take on a senior role within the energy and infrastructure sector.
What will you be doing?
- Provide environmental leadership and direction across major projects.
- Work closely with project and site management teams to ensure environmental compliance.
- Implement and monitor environmental management controls, procedures and mitigation measures.
- Lead environmental incident investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Manage environmental consents, permits, licences and exemptions.
- Identify environmental and sustainability risks and ensure suitable controls are established.
- Review environmental data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop environmental and sustainability campaigns, improvement plans and initiatives.
- Prepare and review environmental management plans, procedures and supporting documentation.
- Produce environmental reports and presentations for senior management and project stakeholders.
- Support pre-qualification, tender and environmental award submissions.
- Work closely with environmental specialists, consultants and wider project stakeholders.
- Promote strong environmental and sustainability standards across project teams.

What are we looking for?
We're looking for an experienced Environmental Manager or Senior Environmental professional with a background in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or energy.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in an Environmental Manager or senior environmental position.
- A relevant environmental qualification, ideally Chartered IEMA or equivalent.
- Strong practical experience managing environmental risk on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience across areas such as:
- Waste management
- Water management and pollution prevention
- Ecological mitigation
- Contaminated land
- Environmental consents and licensing
- DCO / TCPA
- Biodiversity Net Gain
- A strong understanding of Net Zero and carbon reduction principles.
- Experience with carbon measurement and developing initiatives to improve carbon efficiency.
- Experience managing and investigating environmental incidents.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in peatland restoration, conservation or reinstatement would also be advantageous given the nature of the projects.

The role is predominantly site-based, five days per week.
For candidates living approximately 1.5–2 hours from the project locations, a 10 days on / 4 days off rotation can be accommodated, with accommodation provided while on site.
