Environment Manager
Permanent | Multi-Site (North East & Scotland) | Hybrid Working | £50,000 – £63,000 with car allowance of £491 per month
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Environment Manager to lead the development and implementation of a newly evolving environmental function across a highly innovative, multi-site technology and manufacturing organisation.
This is a unique opportunity to build and shape environmental management from the ground up. Operating across R&D, pilot-scale manufacturing, GMP facilities, and innovation programmes, you'll play a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance while enabling responsible innovation and supporting the business in developing new technologies and capabilities in a safe, compliant, and sustainable manner.
The successful candidate will lead the development of an environmental management framework aligned with ISO 14001, whilst acting as a trusted advisor to operational, technical, commercial, and leadership teams. This is not simply a compliance role. We're looking for someone with the confidence and experience to identify opportunities, challenge thinking, and help unlock innovative solutions within complex regulatory environments.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Environmental Strategy & Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the organisation's Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Shape environmental governance, standards, and policies across multiple sites
- Support the integration of environmental considerations into decision-making, operations, R&D activities, and future business growth
- Act as the organisation's environmental subject matter expert and key advisor to senior stakeholders
Environmental Compliance & Permitting
- Lead environmental permitting activities, including permit applications, variations, maintenance, and compliance management
- Develop strong working relationships with regulatory bodies including the Environment Agency and SEPA
- Interpret environmental legislation and permit conditions, translating them into practical operational controls
- Lead inspections, audits, regulatory engagement, and compliance activities across multiple sites

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
