Environmental Manager
We are looking for an Environmental Manager to play a key role in strengthening environmental excellence and sustainability performance across our manufacturing operations.
In this position, you will support the implementation of Essity's Environmental Strategy and RESH Framework, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while driving continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.
In addition, you will hold European responsibility for the management of the EU Ecolabel Tissue Criteria multisite certification framework, ensuring ongoing compliance with certification requirements across the organization.
About the Role
As Environmental Manager, you will provide environmental leadership and expertise within the region, supporting sites in fulfilling environmental legal obligations and implementing Essity's environmental strategy and sustainability objectives.
Working closely with Site Environmental Leaders, RESH teams, cross-functional stakeholders, and global environmental networks, you will drive environmental compliance and performance, promote sustainability awareness and best practices, build organizational capability, and support the implementation of key environmental programs and initiatives across the region, helping advance Essity's sustainability ambitions.
What You Will Do
- Environmental Strategy & Sustainability: Support the implementation of Essity’s RESH Environmental Strategy and site-level environmental requirements by leading and contributing to projects and initiatives that advance sustainability ambitions and improve environmental performance.
- Environmental Compliance & Continuous Improvement: Support sites in maintaining compliance with environmental legislation and requirements while driving continuous improvement initiatives to address non-conformities and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Environmental Certifications & Standards: Support the maintenance and implementation of the EU Ecolabel Tissue Criteria multisite certification by coordinating activities with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with certification requirements and consistency across sites.
- Technical Expertise & Guidance: Provide expert environmental guidance to manufacturing sites and collaborate with the Global RESH Environmental team on regulatory, operational, and sustainability matters while staying informed of emerging environmental legislation and regulatory developments impacting the region.
- Best Practice Sharing & Capability Building: Identify the best environmental practices across sites and facilitate knowledge sharing to promote consistent standards and improved environmental performance while developing and delivering training to strengthen site capabilities and environmental awareness.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Environmental Awareness: Promote environmental and sustainability awareness across the organization while actively participating in internal and external environmental networks, industry forums, and trade associations to share knowledge, strengthen external engagement, and support continuous improvement.
- Regional Collaboration & Alignment: Foster collaboration among Environmental Leaders across the region to align environmental priorities and sustainability initiatives while supporting Environment Directors in the implementation of global environmental programs and ensuring regional consistency.

Who You Are
- University degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Proven experience in environmental management, environmental engineering, or environmental sciences, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements applicable to the region.
- Expertise in environmental management areas including water and wastewater, waste management, air emissions, environmental reporting, incident prevention, and response.
- Experience working with environmental management systems, environmental certifications, and auditing processes, including leading internal and external audits.
- Knowledge of RESH tools, preferably Gensuite, 3E Protect, and GMS, and strong Excel skills.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to think systematically, drive change and translate strategy into practical implementation.
- Goal-oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership and commitment.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

More About Position
This role is based in Valls, Spain, alternatively in Altopascio, Italy, Prudhoe/ Manchester, UK, Hondouville, Gien, France, Mannheim/ Kostheim, Germany or any other relevant Essity manufacturing site across Europe.
This role requires approximately 30% of travel, primarily within the region to support manufacturing sites, with occasional international travel for collaboration and alignment meetings across markets.
