Environmental Pollution Technician
Salary: £31,720 per annum (+ standby and overtime) & Business use of Company Van
Location: Ely and surrounding areas
Contract: Permanent
Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (flexible working opportunities available, plus standby rota)
About the Role
As an Environmental Pollution Technician, you'll be one of the first responders to pollution and environmental incidents, supporting operational teams to understand the cause and impact of discharges on the environment. You'll collect samples, gather evidence, assess environmental impacts and deploy mitigation measures to help minimise environmental harm and restore affected areas.
When you're not attending incidents, you'll support our Dynamic Sewer Visualisation (DSV) programme by installing and maintaining monitoring equipment that helps identify issues before they become environmental problems. You'll also ensure pollution response equipment is maintained, stocked and ready for action, whilst supporting wider environmental improvement initiatives across the business.
What will you be doing?
- Responding to pollution and environmental incidents across the region.
- Collecting environmental samples, photographs and site evidence.
- Assessing environmental impacts and supporting mitigation activity.
- Helping operational teams identify root causes and prevent reoccurrence.
- Installing, maintaining and recovering environmental monitoring equipment.
- Maintaining pollution response equipment and consumables.
- Collaborating with operational teams, scientists and environmental specialists.
- Promoting a proactive, zero-pollutions mindset across the business.

What does it take to be successful?
You'll enjoy working outdoors, be comfortable working independently and have a genuine passion for protecting the environment. You'll also have:
- A full UK manual driving licence.
- Availability to participate in a standby rota and out-of-hours working.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities.
- A proactive, adaptable and resilient approach to work.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Confidence using digital systems and technology.
- The ability to work safely in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
Experience within the environmental or water industry would be beneficial but is not essential. We're equally interested in people with the right attitude, curiosity and willingness to learn.
