Environmental Research Officer
Location: Flexible across Wales (Hybrid Working Available)
Pay Rate: £17.54 per hour
Contract: Until 30th January 2027
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

The Role
We are recruiting for an Environmental Research Officer to support a major strategic review of environmental reporting processes within a leading public sector organisation in Wales.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-profile project that will help shape the future approach to environmental reporting across a range of important areas including marine environments, biodiversity, river systems, protected species, and wider environmental management activities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in gathering evidence, conducting research, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting the development of recommendations that will influence future operating models and reporting frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive research across multiple areas of the organisation to understand current environmental reporting practices.
  • Engage with a broad range of internal stakeholders to gather information, insights, and operational data.
  • Analyse findings and identify themes, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Support the strategic review by collating evidence and contributing to the development of recommendations.
  • Arrange meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Take accurate and detailed meeting minutes, ensuring key discussions and actions are recorded.
  • Maintain project documentation and research records.
  • Produce high-quality written reports and summaries to support decision-making processes.

About You
We are looking for someone who is naturally inquisitive, highly organised, and able to build effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
You will have:

  • Previous experience in a research, project support, policy, or analytical role.
  • Knowledge or interest in environmental issues, biodiversity, conservation, marine environments, river systems, or sustainability.
  • Strong information gathering and investigative skills.
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Experience producing detailed meeting minutes and managing documentation.
  • The ability to analyse data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confidence communicating with stakeholders at all levels.
