Senior ECoW (Ecological Clerk of Works) - Caithness
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 + £3,000 Car Allowance + Benefits
We are supporting an environmental consultancy with the appointment of a Senior ECoW to support the delivery of major infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the north of Scotland.
This is an opportunity for an experienced ECoW who enjoys being site-based, leading ecological compliance on live projects, and mentoring less experienced team members.
The Role
As a Senior ECoW, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered in line with ecological commitments, environmental legislation, and best practice guidance. You'll act as a trusted advisor to contractors and project teams while helping to lead and develop a small team of ECoWs and ecologists.
Projects include wind farm developments, battery energy storage systems, transmission infrastructure, housing developments, transport infrastructure, and major commercial schemes.

Responsibilities
- Providing ecological supervision and support during construction activities.
- Monitoring compliance with environmental and ecological commitments.
- Advising contractors, site teams, and project stakeholders on ecological matters.
- Producing site reports, toolbox talks, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinating and overseeing ecological mitigation measures.
- Supporting the management and development of junior team members.
- Leading a small team and ensuring high standards of delivery across projects.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
About You
We're keen to hear from candidates who have:
- Experience working as an ECoW in Scotland
- Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological best practice.
- Experience working on infrastructure, construction, energy, or renewable projects.
- The confidence to engage with contractors and influence project delivery on site.
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior staff.
- The ability to lead a small team and manage competing priorities.
- A full UK driving licence.

Due to project requirements, applicants should be located within a commutable distance of project sites in Caithness and be comfortable with regular site attendance (4 plus days per week).
