Environmental Supervisor – Ramsgate Site

Role Purpose
The Environmental Supervisor will ensure full compliance with environmental legislation, drive sustainability across AEM, and manage regulatory risk to align the organisation with corporate and industry performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with REACH, COSHH, COMAH (Lower Tier), and UK Health & Safety (HSE) legislation.
- Maintain the COMAH Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP), conduct hazard identification, and lead emergency planning.
- Liaise with the HSE and Environment Agency regarding inspections and reporting requirements.
- Prepare for and manage ISO 14001 audits and maintain Environmental Management System (EMS) documentation.

Chemical & Waste Management
- Control and approve chemical usage, review Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and conduct risk assessments.
- Maintain an inventory of chemicals and ensure safe storage and segregation to prevent contamination.
- Oversee the segregation, disposal, and recycling of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
Sustainability & Environmental Performance
- Develop, implement, and monitor sustainability strategies, including low-VOC chemical usage, energy efficiency, and waste reduction initiatives.
- Monitor and report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relating to carbon footprint, energy consumption, water usage, and waste.
- Promote circular economy practices and sustainable procurement policies throughout the organisation.
- Lead employee engagement initiatives in environmental awareness, safety training, and green initiatives.
Training & Awareness
- Lead training in safe chemical handling, spill protocols, and environmental procedures.
- Foster a culture of environmental responsibility across all departments.
Reporting & Site Support
- Prepare and compile compliance reports, incident documentation, and performance metrics for senior management.
- Support engineering and maintenance teams in adopting safe and sustainable practices.
- Conduct site inspections to assess environmental conditions and ensure they align with company policies, contributing to safe project execution.

Experience & Professional Background
Experience and knowledge in environmental/sustainability management, particularly within the aviation sector, is essential. Strong familiarity with:
- REACH, COSHH, COMAH regulations
- ISO 14001 standards
- Chemical safety protocols
- Environmental audits
- Sustainability reporting
Qualifications & Competencies
Formal Education
- Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Skills &attributes
- Strong leadership and ability to engage with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Experience supervising staff and collaborating effectively within operations.
