Role Description
The EOE R&D Investment Manager governs and manages R&D and capex funding related to MSN tools, platforms and innovation initiatives within the SA MSN scope.
The role consolidates, prioritizes and follows up on investments across MSDP, AI/automation assets and related enablers, ensuring alignment with MSN strategy and targeted business outcomes.
Success is measured by maintaining budget compliance, improving forecasting accuracy, timely reporting to leadership and best use of allocated budget.
Role Responsibilities
Main responsibilities:
- Establish and execute a comprehensive oversight framework for the BPD R&D budget ensuring alignment with strategic business priorities
- Coordinate the annual and mid-term planning cycles for MSN tools and innovation investments
- Communicate & secure approval from key MSN stakeholders for prioritization, forecasting and funding of R&D budget and its individual items and activities
- Work with BPD leadership, MSDP Product Director, Cloud Business Architects & SDAP Product Owners to align investment priorities with strategic roadmaps
- Ensure forecasted and actual spend is actively tracked, regularly updated and visible to key MSN stakeholders and Finance management
- Execute monthly governance with project managers and business owners to review progress, spending trends and adjust forecasts accordingly
- Ensure compliance to TG2, TG3 and TG5 tollgates from a financial perspective
- Flag and actively manage deviations to ensure most effective use of R&D budget
- Implement budget review cadence with key MSN stakeholders
- Participate in governance fora and relevant decision bodies responsible for the oversight, evolution and deployment of MSN tools.
- Provide financial and portfolio insights to support decision-making in operating model and tools governance forums

Role Authority
The R&D Investment Manager has authority to:
- Request information and input from MSN units, product/platform teams and finance to build and track investment cases.
- Recommend prioritization, deferral or reallocation of investments within agreed governance frameworks.
- Escalate investment-related risks and issues to MSN leadership.
Required Skills, Experience And Qualifications
Education – University degree in engineering, business, economics or equivalent.
Experience – Typically 5+ years in managed services, R&D or capex portfolio management, or financial planning, preferably in telecom or technology
Skills – Strong business and financial acumen; understanding of managed services; good stakeholder management and communication skills Ability to interpret technical platform and innovation proposals and translate them into financial and business terms Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Fluency in English

Preferred Skills And Experience
A good demonstrated working knowledge of the Ericsson Operations Engine Knowledge of the Ericsson or BCSS finance management process for services Adept at using AI for workplace-based productivity

Working Arrangements
Office-based for a minimum of 60% of the working week. Travel is expected in the range of 10% on average, but can rise to around 20% based upon business need. If not based in the UK, a minimum of one week in four will be based in the UK.
