Job Introduction
Most children will receive their education in a school setting. However, there are some circumstances where children’s educational needs can only be met through Education Other than at School (EOTAS) in line with section 61 of the Education Act 1996.
The role of the EOTAS key worker is to engage with and support a group of individual children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND) who are unable to access education in any school environment.
To co-ordinate their education provision on a day-to-day basis and to deliver appropriate support in line with the Education Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) and EOTAS provision
e.g. We are looking for an EOTAS Key Worker to join our dedicated team in Children Services. This role is an opportunity to make a real difference in our vibrant and diverse city.
The Main Responsibilities Of This Role
- To manage a caseload of young people who receive their education through EOTAS.
- To engage with each young person and their family on a weekly basis.
- To co-ordinate the day-to-day elements of their education package working with a range of education and therapeutic providers and other external partners to ensure that education is accessed and implemented so that the young person can make effective progress.
- To act as a key worker for the young person, providing pastoral oversight of their education provision, seeking to address potential barriers to them accessing their education.
- To build a positive working relationship with each young person and their family that enables the effective delivery of their education provision.
- To oversee a range of interventions as detailed in the young person’s EHC plan.
- To support each young person in planning for the future including supporting them back into education settings and into adult life.
- To participate in regular reviews of learning and progress, including the annual review of their EHC Plan.
- To ensure the accurate recording of progress against outcomes in the young person’s EHC Plan.
- To work with casework officers in the SEND Integrated Assessment and Review Team to deliver the EOTAS package.
