The General Medical Council (GMC)
The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students, doctors, physician associates (PAs) and anaesthesia associates (AAs). We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards and take action when they are not met. The medical profession is diverse, as are the patients we help to protect. Equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) is therefore integral to everything we do both as a regulator and as an employer.
We are committed to delivering fair, inclusive and compassionate regulation, recognising the diverse experiences and needs of the professionals we regulate, and helping to create inclusive healthcare environments that support safe patient care for everyone.
Our ED&I commitments are driven by our ambition to make progress in tackling persistent inequalities, and to achieve positive changes and outcomes for the diverse groups we work with and work for. Having a diverse and inclusive workforce, both within the GMC and in healthcare systems across the UK, is vital.
What You Will Do
As an ED&I Adviser, you will work as part of a small team of specialists, providing expert advice, guidance and practical support across the GMC. You will help colleagues embed fairness, inclusion and equality considerations into our policies, processes and decision-making, supporting our commitment to fair regulation. You will also engage with external stakeholders representing diverse groups, helping to build trust, gather insight and inform our approach to tackling inequality and promoting fairness.
You will coordinate and support a wide range of ED&I projects, governance processes and stakeholder engagement activities, helping to shape and deliver initiatives that improve experiences and outcomes for both our people and the wider communities we serve. Using data, insight and evidence to identify opportunities for improvement, you will support colleagues to apply equality duties, promote fair and inclusive approaches, and ensure our work is informed by the principles of regulatory fairness.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
