We have been mandated by a top-performing hedge fund with a strong multi-year track to advise on the hiring a Portfolio Manager into their London-based EM equities team. The firm has grown materially in AUM and continues to invest in its senior investment talent as part of a broader and considered expansion of the platform. It is a well-run, collegiate environment with genuine momentum behind it.
What the role involves
- Assume direct ownership of a long/short EM equity book, with meaningful discretion over portfolio construction, position sizing, risk management and trade execution
- Originate long and short investment ideas across LATAM, CEEMEA and/or APAC, working alongside other senior portfolio managers and investment staff
- Develop and defend independent views on business quality, capital allocation and valuation through deep fundamental and relative value analysis across a broad EM equity universe
- Build and maintain detailed financial models incorporating company-level, sector and macro inputs across relevant geographies
- Maintain an active dialogue with company management teams, sell-side contacts and local market participants to source and rigorously test investment theses

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
