Equity Research Analyst – Financial Services

A leading City-based investment bank is looking to hire an experienced Equity Research Analyst to join its Financial Services Research team, covering companies across Banking, Insurance and Diversified Financials.

This opportunity is specifically suited to someone already working in equity research, with direct experience covering financial services companies. You will work closely with highly regarded senior analysts, producing differentiated company and sector research, developing investment ideas and communicating insights to institutional clients.

The role offers significant exposure to company management teams, investors and internal sales and trading colleagues, alongside the opportunity to deepen your expertise across the UK and European financial services landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality company and sector research, including results commentary, valuation updates, stock reports and thematic publications.
  • Build, maintain and develop detailed financial models, earnings forecasts and valuation analysis across covered companies.
  • Monitor company news flow, regulatory developments, macroeconomic trends and key sector drivers.
  • Analyse financial statements, operating KPIs, capital positions and industry data to support stock recommendations.
  • Work closely with senior analysts to develop differentiated investment ideas and refine company and sector views.
  • Respond to institutional client enquiries and communicate research conclusions clearly and confidently.
  • Attend company meetings, results presentations, industry conferences and corporate access events.
  • Collaborate with Equity Sales, Sales Trading and other internal teams to promote the research product and support client engagement.

Candidate Profile

  • 4-plus years’ experience in equity research, gained within a sell-side investment bank, brokerage or relevant buy-side research environment.
  • Direct experience covering financial services companies, ideally across banks, insurers, asset managers or diversified financials.
  • Strong financial modelling, forecasting and valuation skills, with a detailed understanding of financial statements.
  • Experience contributing to published company research, results notes, sector reports and investment recommendations.
  • A strong understanding of the operational, regulatory and macroeconomic drivers affecting financial institutions.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to present investment ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Confidence engaging with institutional investors, company management teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience using Bloomberg, FactSet or comparable financial data platforms.
  • A relevant professional qualification, such as the CFA or ACA, would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for equity markets.
