ERP Transformation Director
This is a great opportunity to join Calibre Scientific as the ERP Transformation Director. The role is the in-house SAP technical authority for the S/4HANA platform and its connected systems.
Calibre operates a vendor-delivered model. Application Management Services (AMS) and project implementation are provided by third-party partners. This role owns the technical direction those partners work to, and holds them accountable for what they deliver.
The ERP Transformation Director owns the target solution architecture, defines technical standards, approves significant designs before build, and acts as the escalation point for complex issues that vendor support cannot resolve.
Deep, current S/4HANA system knowledge is essential. The role is expected to read and challenge vendor designs, configuration and code, and to be credible in technical debate with delivery partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Solution Architecture and Technical Standards
- Own and maintain the target S/4HANA solution architecture, including integration with e-commerce, CRM and other connected systems
- Define technical standards for customisation, integration and extensibility that all delivery partners must follow
- Ensure developments align with SAP best practice and minimise technical debt
- Produce solution designs for significant initiatives rather than relying on vendors to define the target state
AMS and Vendor Delivery Management
- Manage the technical relationship with the AMS partner; monitor service quality, SLA performance and recurring issue trends
- Coordinate the delivery of tactical and project-based S/4HANA services provided by third-party vendors
- Challenge vendor solutions where they do not meet Calibre standards, and escalate through the appropriate commercial route
- Review vendor proposals, estimates and technical approaches before work is approved

Technical Approval and Review
- Approve all significant technical designs before implementation
- Review configuration, enhancements and custom developments (including ABAP objects) for quality, performance and maintainability
- Act as technical gatekeeper for changes entering the S/4HANA landscape
Escalation and Complex Issue Resolution
- Act as the internal escalation point for complex S/4HANA issues that AMS cannot resolve
- Perform root cause analysis across configuration, custom code, data and integration layers
- Direct vendor troubleshooting effort and validate that fixes address the underlying cause
Roadmap and Continuous Improvement
- Partner with the business and IT leadership to define and maintain the SAP roadmap
- Translate business priorities into technical initiatives and recommend future platform capabilities
- Monitor system health, performance and the integration landscape, and identify improvement opportunities
- Build S/4HANA understanding within the internal IT team and reduce single-point dependency on vendors
Competencies:
- Recognised technical authority; confident making and defending architectural decisions
- Able to hold third-party partners to account constructively and without escalation becoming the norm
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Balances day-to-day support demands with longer-term platform direction
- Comfortable operating as the sole SAP specialist within a small internal IT team
- Pragmatic; distinguishes between standards worth enforcing and acceptable exceptions

Qualifications:
Education:
- Relevant qualification in IT, engineering, or a related discipline. SAP certification desirable.
Experience:
- 7–10 years working with SAP, including significant hands-on S/4HANA experience
- Proven experience in a technical lead, solution architect, or equivalent authority role
- Experience directing third-party delivery partners, including AMS providers and implementation vendors
- Track record of resolving complex S/4HANA issues through to root cause
- Experience of S/4HANA integration with surrounding systems such as e-commerce, CRM and logistics platforms
Technical Knowledge:
- Strong working knowledge of S/4HANA configuration, data structures and process flows across core modules
- Able to read and assess ABAP, enhancements, CDS views and other custom objects
- Understanding of SAP integration technologies (IDoc, OData, APIs, CPI or equivalent middleware)
- Familiarity with SAP transport, release and change management practice
