About the Role

Playing a pivotal role within the heavy haulage transport department supporting abnormal load movements throughout the country. This role includes the loading and unloading of heavy cargo including rail vehicles, electrical infrastructure components, and heavy manufacturing goods. This is a hands-on unique role supporting one of the UK’s largest heavy hauliers. The role requires an individual with a flexible attitude towards weekend working.

Responsibilities

  • Ramp building is a two-person hands-on operation led by the driver. The escort driver will support in these activities.
  • Assist with the building of trailers, cleaning equipment and preparing equipment such as timbers, chains, straps and spill kits.
  • To drive either behind or in front of abnormal load as the law requires.
  • Operating plant equipment (forklift &/or telehandler) to positioning steelwork and support general lifting and carrying.
  • To ensure constant communication via radio with the abnormal load driver, warning of hazards and ensuring safe operations.
  • To act as second in command to the abnormal load driver.
  • To assist in the loading and unloading of the trailer.
  • To assist in securing the load.
  • To steer and navigate the trailer, taking care to avoid all obstacles and not to damage any equipment.
  • To assist in keeping the vehicle clean and tidy both inside and outside.
  • Report any defects immediately to the driver and garage and notify the transport manager.
  • To perform any duty within Allelys as directed by the transport manager that is a reasonable request within the performance, skill and ability level of the job.

Qualifications

  • Full Driving licence
  • Experience escorting abnormal loads (desirable)
  • CPC qualification card (desirable)
