ESG Technical Business Analyst

Job location: London, UK, 2 days per week

Description

This is a free training course followed by the potential for a role with one of our clients. Upon completion of our course, you will be equipped to start your new role.

The Role

Our clients are looking for an ESG Technical Business Analyst to join their team.

About You & The Role

As a Technical Business Analyst you will be supporting the design and delivery of complex regulatory change capabilities, focusing on CRD VI and CSDR. Sitting directly within ITSD and reporting to the Risk IT Workstream Lead, this role acts as a critical technical bridge between ESG SMEs, Compliance, Risk, and Technology Delivery teams. You will interpret complex ESG regulatory mandates and translate them into robust solution designs, data models, and actionable delivery backlogs within an Agile framework.

What We're Looking For

Education

Certifications like CFA ESG, FRM, or Agile BA are desirable.

Technical Proficiency

  • Hands-on experience with SQL for complex querying/validation
  • Advanced Excel for data modeling
  • Python or R for data transformation, automation, and prototyping

Regulatory & ESG Knowledge

  • Proven background in financial services technical analysis
  • Working knowledge of CRD VI, CSDR, and broader frameworks (e.g., Pillar 3 ESG, SFDR, EU Taxonomy)

Data Architecture

  • Expertise in regulatory reporting datasets
  • Data modeling, mapping, lineage analysis, and data governance

Agile & Delivery Skills

  • Strong background in Agile delivery
  • User story refinement, backlog management, and SDLC testing frameworks

Mindset & Soft Skills

  • Highly collaborative team player
  • Excellent communication, a control-focused mindset, and strong problem-solving skills

Some Things You'll Be Working On

  • Regulatory Translation: Partnering with ESG SMEs to challenge, refine, and validate regulatory requirements against CRD VI and CSDR frameworks, ensuring full auditability and completeness.
  • Solution Architecture & Data Design: Defining ESG data models, mappings, process flows, and data lineage for CRD VI reporting and CSDR settlement metrics.
  • Data Analysis & Sourcing: Performing data profiling, reconciliation, gap analysis, and defining transformation and enrichment logic using SQL, Python, and Excel.
  • Agile Backlog Ownership: Breaking down validated regulatory requirements into epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria while prioritizing backlogs to hit regulatory deadlines.
  • Prototyping & Reporting: Building analytical prototypes, custom calculations, and reports to support regulatory and data engineering implementation.
  • End-to-End SDLC Support: Working alongside QA, architecture, and engineering teams through design, testing, UAT, and rollout to ensure end-to-end traceability from regulatory rule to code.
  • Stakeholder Management: Acting as a primary liaison across Risk, Compliance, ESG, and IT teams, communicating complex design trade-offs and updates in governance forums.
