Estate & Business Development Manager
Brief summary
We are recruiting for a unique and exciting opportunity within our family business based in Blairgowrie, Scotland. We are looking for someone to step into the business and help manage the day-to-day running of our small estate, whilst also helping to develop and bring new opportunities for the land and buildings into reality. Our history
We have been a family business operating in the area for over 100 years. Originally focused on running spinning mills along the town’s river, for the last 50 years we have operated as a soft fruit farm, supplying berries and cherries to the UK’s supermarkets. Just as the business changed from mills to berries, it now finds itself entering a new chapter. 2026 was the first year with little to no commercial production of our fruit, and our focus has shifted towards exploring new opportunities for our land and buildings. We already have a mixture of holiday lets, residential and commercial tenants on the estate, but there is significant potential to develop this further through property, tourism, hospitality and other diversification opportunities.

The role
We are looking for someone who can live close by or on site, with a two-bedroom cottage potentially available as part of the role. You would be responsible for the day-to-day management of the land and buildings. This would include managing two farm workers, overseeing holiday let properties, residential and commercial tenancies, and coordinating contractors and maintenance across the estate. Alongside the day-to-day running of the business, an important part of the role will be helping us identify, assess and develop new opportunities. We are looking for someone who can take an idea, explore whether it is commercially viable, build a simple business plan around it and, where agreed, help bring it into reality. This could involve anything from improving our existing holiday accommodation and commercial properties to exploring new tourism, hospitality, leisure or property opportunities across the estate. There will be plenty of scope for the right person to bring their own ideas to the business.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, organised and comfortable working independently. You will need strong communication skills and be confident dealing with a wide variety of people, including contractors, tenants, guests, visitors, farm workers and company directors. You should be comfortable structuring your own day and managing a varied workload, whilst keeping the business owners and directors regularly updated. A strong commercial mindset is important. You do not necessarily need to have worked within farming or estate management before, but you should be able to look at an opportunity practically, understand the costs and potential return, and develop a sensible plan for how it could work. We are also looking for someone who is happy to be hands-on. As a small family business, the role will naturally involve a mixture of managing, planning, problem-solving and sometimes simply getting things done.

The details
- Location: Blairgowrie, Perthshire
- Hours: Full- or part-time considered. We are flexible on which days for the right person.
- Salary: Negotiable depending on hours and experience
- Contract: Initially maternity cover, with genuine potential for the role to continue and grow beyond it
- Reporting to: Head of Projects and the Directors
- Accommodation: A two-bedroom on-farm cottage could potentially be offered
