Summary

We are looking for an experienced Estate Manager to join the Estates team to manage a diverse and significant rural property portfolio across Sussex and Kent. You will help to deliver the Trust’s ambitions for nature, climate, heritage conservation and public benefit while maximising sustainable income from our estates.

To be considered for this role you must hold full MRICS membership through the Rural Pathway. Applications from candidates who do not hold this qualification cannot be considered.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months. Applications for part-time working will be considered.

What It's Like To Work Here

You'll join a supportive and collaborative Estates team, working alongside property, agricultural and environmental specialist colleagues from across the Trust.

In this role you’ll be working across a variety of beautiful estates such as Chartwell, North Kent Downs, Sheffield Park, Scotney and Bodiam Castles, Bateman’s and Sissinghurst on the High Weald, Birling Gap on the South Downs, Nymans and Winchelsea.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the future management of nationally significant landholdings while delivering meaningful environmental, financial and community outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

You will manage a diverse portfolio of agricultural, residential and commercial let property, leading landlord and tenant matters, building strong stakeholder relationships, and delivering environmental and financial outcomes. You will negotiate agreements, oversee budgets and projects, and provide professional estate management advice.

As this role covers the Sussex and Kent region, your contractual place of work will be our Scotney Castle office. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
