About Shaftesbury Statement

Shaftesbury is a disability charity offering care, education, vocational and rehab services. The charity also provides residential care, nursing and supported living.

Within the education sector, Shaftesbury has one school, Shaftesbury Victoria School, and 2 further education colleges, Shaftesbury Millie College and Shaftesbury Nash College. The school is for students aged 3-19, and the colleges are for students aged 16-25. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as physical and/or intellectual disabilities, and some have profound and complex learning needs.

About The Role

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Estates Operative who is willing to work with a well-established maintenance team that strive to improve all aspects of the students experience while in education. The role will involve all types of general building repairs, minor electrical works, carpentry and various decorating requirements.

You will be responsible for maintaining exceptional standards of maintenance around the campus and fostering a culture of safety, compliance and excellence in order to support meaningful learning experiences for students with special needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of disciplines within the school grounds and buildings and to be a vital part of the welfare of our students. Taking an active part in improving the environment and the life experience of our students at this excellent SEN school.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated, empathetic with a genuine passion for improving the school’s environment. You will need a calm and adaptable approach, excellent self-motivating skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Flexibility and commitment are essential, as you will be working within a well skilled and professional maintenance team, ensuring smooth and consistent operations across the provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working within the remits of reactive, proactive and planned maintenance programs.
  • Recording compliance and keeping accurate records of the checks for Legionella, fire safety and routine alarms.
  • Taking necessary action to rectify any compliance failures if they arise.
  • Ensuring compliance with licensing regulations, managing inspections and audits.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and empathetic individuals with a genuine passion for student welfare.
  • Calm and adaptable approach, able to follow instructions and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience working within the maintenance department of either an educational setting or large buildings.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team of staff and volunteers.
  • A desire to deliver high-quality workmanship at all times.
