Job Title: Estate Quantity Surveyor

Department: Property Department – Building Consultancy Team

Reporting To: Head of Building Consultancy

Responsible For: Estimating, Financial Management and Contract Administration associated with Maintenance Works and Construction Projects to the Estates Properties, Enterprises and Assets.

Cowdray is a historic and vibrant rural Estate in the South Downs, home to British Polo and a wide variety of unique properties and businesses. We are looking for an experienced Estate Quantity Surveyor to join our Construction Department and play a key role in the conservation, maintenance, and development of our properties and assets.

What We’re Looking For

  • Must hold a degree level or equivalent qualification in a construction related discipline e.g. Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Surveying etc.
  • Must have a minimum of five years’ experience in the building/construction industry.
  • Must demonstrate experience of undertaking extension/refurbishment/planned maintenance projects to a variety of property types.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in estimating the cost of construction works.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience of successful project and budget management.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of building contracts and their administration.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of statutory and industry compliance requirements including Planning, Building Regulations, Listed Building Consent and Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a passionate knowledge and experience of working with historic buildings using traditional repair and conservation techniques.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to quality and a high standard of design/workmanship.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, IT and organisational skills including proficiency in the use of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Must be a flexible team player willing to play a key role within the Estate and its wider community.
  • Must have a full clean driving license and use of a vehicle.

  • To hold full membership of a recognised professional body e.g. RICS, CIOB, CABE, etc. with at least two years post qualification experience.
  • To hold a Project Management Qualification.
  • To hold a Building Conservation Qualification.
  • To demonstrate experience of preparing schedules/specifications for construction works.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of specialist computer software such as MS Project, CostX, Bluebeam, Masterbill, JCT Digital etc.
