About the Role

This is a key role responsible for managing a portfolio of capital projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality standards while maintaining full compliance with statutory, regulatory and Trust requirements. The post holder will work closely with clinical, operational and estates colleagues to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and Deliver Projects: Oversee a portfolio of capital projects of varying scale and complexity across all Trust sites.
  • Project Management: Lead projects from briefing, feasibility and business case development through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Documentation: Prepare and manage Project Initiation Documents, programmes, budgets and cash flows.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor performance against scope, programme, cost and quality, managing change in line with Trust governance and controls.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the main point of contact for clinical, operational and corporate stakeholders, consultants and contractors.
  • Compliance: Ensure early and ongoing engagement with Infection Prevention & Control, Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Digital and Facilities teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements including CDM Regulations, HTMs, HBNs, Building Safety Act and Trust policies.
  • Contract Management: Manage external consultants and contractors, including performance management and compliance with Control of Contractors procedures.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports, risk registers and updates for Project Boards and senior stakeholders.
  • Strategic Support: Support capital planning activity including annual programme development and the Estates five-year plan.
  • Post-Project Evaluation: Ensure effective commissioning, handover and post-project evaluation, including documentation and asset information updates.

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics.
