Senior Estates Engineer

A leading organisation operating within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment is seeking a Senior Estates Engineer to support the reliable operation of critical building, utility, and engineering services across a complex manufacturing and research facility.

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will oversee the maintenance, performance, and compliance of site-wide mechanical and electrical systems. You'll provide technical leadership to an engineering team, manage specialist contractors, and ensure engineering activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with GMP and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate planned, reactive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Act as a technical lead for HVAC and critical infrastructure systems.
  • Conduct equipment inspections, audits, and performance reviews.
  • Support fault finding, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
  • Manage small projects, shutdowns, upgrades, and installations.
  • Oversee external contractors and service providers.
  • Ensure engineering documentation, permits, and procedures meet compliance requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement, reliability, and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Participate in an on-call rota to support operational continuity.

About You

You'll have a strong engineering background with experience leading maintenance teams within a GMP-regulated or similarly controlled environment.

Key requirements include:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (HNC, ONC, City & Guilds or equivalent).
  • Experience supervising engineering or maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services.
  • Familiarity with CMMS/CAFM systems and maintenance planning.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Desirable Experience

  • Pharmaceutical, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.
  • HVAC, utilities, and critical infrastructure management.
  • Budget control and contractor management.
  • Continuous improvement or lean methodologies.
  • Electrical HV/LV or pressure systems authorisation experience.
