Estates Manager - London
We are looking to recruit an experienced Estates Manager to join our team based at our London site. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £46,000 per annum.
The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity.
We have two public sites in the Midlands and London and a stored collection at Stafford. Our purpose is to share the RAF story – past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections to engage, inform and inspire.

What We Are Looking For In Our Estates Manager
Are you an experienced estates or facilities professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact within a nationally significant cultural institution? The Royal Air Force Museum is looking for a proactive Estates Manager (London) to help ensure our buildings, infrastructure and facilities remain safe, compliant, sustainable and fit for the future.
Reporting to the Head of Estates, you will play a key role in ensuring the Museum’s London estate remains safe, compliant, sustainable and well maintained. Responsible for our buildings, infrastructure, building services and facilities, you will lead a small team and oversee contractors to deliver maintenance, statutory compliance, energy management and improvement projects across the site.

Key Responsibilities Of Our Estates Manager
- Lead the maintenance and development of the Museum’s London estate, including buildings, infrastructure and building services.
- Manage a small estates team providing leadership, support and development.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant estates, building and health and safety legislation and statutory requirements.
- Manage contractors, consultants and service providers to deliver high-quality and cost-effective services.
- Specify, procure and deliver maintenance, refurbishment and minor capital projects.
- Manage delegated budgets and provide regular financial and performance reporting.
- Support strategic estates developments, exhibitions and wider Museum projects.
- Drive energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives through effective management of building systems and services.
About You
- Professionally qualified in a relevant discipline such as Building Services Engineering, Facilities Management, Surveying, or qualified through significant relevant experience.
- Experienced in estates or facilities management, building maintenance and M&E services.
- Proven experience managing projects, budgets, contractors and direct reports.
- Strong knowledge of statutory compliance requirements and health and safety legislation.
- An effective communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills.
- Organised, proactive and solutions-focused, with a commitment to delivering high standards.

Experience within the heritage, cultural, public sector or visitor attraction environment would be advantageous, as would an IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and developing a unique and nationally important estate, supporting visitors, staff, volunteers and the Museum’s nationally significant collections.
