Job Title: Estate Service Operative

Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £27,150.59 Per annum
Working Hours: 35 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm
Location: Millwall, London
Notes: Full driving license required

The difference you will make as Estate Service Operative

In this role you will carry out ground’s maintenance duties including lawn mowing, shrub and hedge trimming, planting, edging, digging, weeding and general maintenance of planted areas. You will carry out litter picking and the safe removal of dog waste where required as part of maintaining communal garden and external areas. Ideally in this role you will report all site-related matters to management, including health and safety concerns and any issues affecting the external maintenance of sites.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance and gardening methods.
  • Knowledge of gardening tools and appropriate product selection.
  • Experience in the safe use of powered grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, brush cutters and hedge trimmers, as well as hand tools.
  • Appropriate competency-based training and experience.
  • Knowledge and correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Understanding of and compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Awareness of risk assessment, including risks to residents and members of the public during grounds maintenance operations.
  • A valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle being driven.

Role Profile

Role Responsibilities

  • Carry out ground’s maintenance duties including lawn mowing, shrub and hedge trimming, planting, edging, digging, weeding and general maintenance of planted areas.
  • Carry out litter picking and the safe removal of dog waste where required as part of maintaining communal garden and external areas.
  • Clear bulky waste from sites where this has not been delegated to the Bulk Waste Team.
  • Report all site-related matters to management, including health and safety concerns and any issues affecting the external maintenance of sites.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with residents, customers and colleagues at all times.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during periods of sickness or annual leave. This may include undertaking additional reasonable duties as required.
  • Drive the allocated company vehicle between sites to undertake scheduled grounds maintenance duties.
  • Carry out required vehicle checks and report any vehicle defects or safety concerns in accordance with Riverside procedures.
  • Safely transport and secure tools, machinery, equipment and materials in the company vehicle.
  • Use grounds maintenance machinery, powered equipment and hand tools safely and in accordance with relevant procedures and training.
  • Use initiative within the responsibilities of the role to ensure sites are maintained to the required standard during each visit.
  • Follow relevant health and safety procedures and safe systems of work and use the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Person specification

Essential

  • Appropriate competency-based training and experience.

  • Ability to safely operate the allocated company vehicle and undertake basic vehicle safety checks.

Desirable

  • PA1/PA6 certification where relevant to pesticide or herbicide application duties.
  • Relevant LANTRA and/or City & Guilds qualifications in horticulture or grounds maintenance.
  • First Aid at Work or similar qualification.
  • Relevant health and safety certification.
