Estimating Engineer
Cardiff
Up to £50,000 per annum (DOE)
Full-time | Permanent
DCS Engineering are currently supporting a growing engineering and technical organisation with the recruitment of an Estimating Engineer to join their team in Cardiff.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimating Engineer, Estimator, Project Engineer or technically experienced piping/mechanical professional looking to move into an estimating-focused position. The role will support a diverse range of projects with a particular focus on piping, mechanical, MEP, fabrication and liquid cooling systems.
Job Responsibilities:
- Preparing detailed estimates and quotations for piping, mechanical, MEP and fabrication works.
- Developing estimates for liquid cooling and HVAC systems, including chilled water and process cooling applications.
- Completing detailed material take-offs, labour estimates and cost build-ups.
- Reviewing drawings, P&IDs, specifications and tender documentation to establish project requirements.
- Preparing supplier and subcontractor RFQs and assessing returned quotations.
- Developing construction methodologies, resource requirements, logistics and modularisation assessments.
- Identifying project assumptions, exclusions, risks and opportunities for value engineering.
- Supporting tender submissions and ensuring estimates accurately reflect project scope.
- Liaising with engineering, project, operations and commercial teams throughout the tender process.
- Supporting project handovers following successful tenders.
- Contributing to the ongoing development of estimating processes, tools and cost intelligence.
- Managing multiple enquiries and tenders while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

The Candidate:

- Previous experience within estimating, project engineering, piping, mechanical engineering or a similar technical environment.
- Strong knowledge of HDPE, Carbon Steel and Stainless Steel piping systems, including materials, valves, fittings and supports.
- Experience preparing piping or mechanical estimates and quotations.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs and specifications.
- Experience completing material take-offs and developing labour and resource estimates.
- Practical understanding of fabrication, welding and site installation processes.
- Exposure to liquid cooling/HVAC, mechanical plant, MEP, structural steel or modular construction.
- Strong numerical and commercial awareness.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Good communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries simultaneously.
- A practical understanding of how engineering and construction projects are fabricated, installed and delivered.
