The Opportunity
We are working with a long-established Passive Fire Protection contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Estimating Manager to lead their estimating function from their Essex office.
Operating within the passive fire industry for over 20 years, the business has built an excellent reputation for delivering commercial projects across fire stopping, fire doors and intumescent paint/coating systems throughout London and the South East.
Due to continued growth, they are now looking for an experienced passive fire professional to take responsibility for the leadership and development of their estimating team, while overseeing the tendering and pre-construction process across a varied portfolio of projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for either an established Estimating Manager or an experienced Senior Estimator looking to take the next step into a genuine team leadership position.
The Role
As Estimating Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the estimating function, ensuring tenders are produced accurately, competitively and in line with the company’s commercial objectives.
You will manage and support the existing estimating team while remaining involved in key tenders and major opportunities yourself.
Responsibilities
- Leading, managing and developing the estimating team
- Overseeing the tender pipeline and allocating opportunities across the department
- Managing tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission
- Reviewing and signing off estimates prior to submission
- Producing and overseeing estimates across fire stopping, fire doors and intumescent coatings
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, surveys and tender documentation
- Ensuring accurate take-offs, cost plans and tender submissions are produced
- Reviewing labour, material and subcontractor requirements
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the tender process
- Supporting commercial negotiations and client meetings
- Monitoring tender performance, conversion rates and estimating workload
- Developing estimating processes and driving consistency and best practice across the team
- Mentoring and supporting Estimators within the department
- Working closely with Commercial, Contracts and Operational teams to ensure effective handover of secured projects
- Building strong relationships with clients, suppliers and key stakeholders
- Supporting senior management with tender strategy and future pipeline planning

What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong background in Passive Fire Protection estimating who has the experience and personality to lead an established team.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Extensive estimating experience within passive fire protection
- Strong technical knowledge of fire stopping and/or fire doors
- Knowledge of intumescent paint/coating systems would be advantageous
- Previous experience managing, mentoring or supporting other Estimators
- Experience pricing commercial projects of varying sizes and complexity
- Strong commercial awareness with a good understanding of margins, costs and risk
- The ability to review and challenge estimates and tender strategies
- Excellent client-facing and negotiation skills
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tender deadlines
- A proactive approach to improving estimating processes and team performance
- The ability to work collaboratively with Commercial and Operational teams
