Estimation and Design Consultant

Every mission-critical data centre project is won or lost at design and estimation stage. A leading provider of data centre infrastructure solutions is hiring an Estimation and Design Consultant to sit at exactly that point, producing the technical designs and cost models behind structured cabling and passive infrastructure projects across hyperscale, colocation and enterprise environments.

About the opportunity

You will sit within the Design and Estimation function, bridging engineering and commercial. Working with Business Development, Engineering, Project Management and Commercial teams, you will interrogate tender documentation, build accurate Bills of Materials and labour models, produce the technical drawings, and then support the delivery teams through to handover. It is a technically focused, client-facing role with a clear pathway into Senior Design Consultancy, Pre-Construction Management or Technical Solutions leadership.

What you will be doing

  • Review tender documentation, employer's requirements, client specifications and technical drawings
  • Develop detailed Bills of Materials, labour estimates and cost models for structured cabling and passive infrastructure
  • Prepare technical quotations, proposals and bid documentation, and support value engineering
  • Assess scope, technical risk, buildability and commercial viability
  • Produce white space floor layouts, rack and cabinet elevations, fibre and copper routing drawings, containment and pathway layouts and equipment location plans
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, client specifications and data centre best practice
  • Carry out or support site surveys and update designs for site conditions and client variations
  • Produce and maintain as-built documentation and mark-ups
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors and internal project teams through technical workshops and design reviews

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
