Main Purpose of Role
The Estimator's role is to support the Pre Construction Manager in preparing estimates for civil engineering and building works for Electricity Transmission Substations and High Voltage Direct Current Interconnector Convertor stations in accordance with bidding/estimating systems and procedures.
Working predominantly with the Pre Construction Manager, but liaising with other members of tendering & engineering teams as deemed appropriate according to the specific tender, to develop customer and company requirements to secure value solutions in support of the wider tender to meet the company's objectives.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Estimates
- Produce take-offs and bills of quantities adhering to CESSM4 for civil enabling works, civil, structural and architectural packages
- Produce elemental cost plans for business development and budget submissions
- Strong working knowledge of estimating software
- Strong working knowledge of MS Excel
- Undertake estimates in accordance with Company procedures for the Civil Engineering, Building and Building Services works
- Identify and record opportunity and risk during tender process
- Maintain register of assumptions within estimate
- Produce detailed exclusions, assumptions and qualifications for tender

Handover
- Prepare estimating handover packs
- Maintain notes of handover meeting
- Provide ongoing support to Pre Construction Manager relating to estimate and key assumptions
Experience
- Proven experience within the Construction industry
- Proven experience in an Estimating capacity
- Thorough working knowledge of CESMM4 required
Qualifications & Competence Requirements
Mandatory
- Good Communicator and Pro-active demeanor
- Experience within a bid team and/or commercial setting
- Experience of working as part of a Project Delivery Team
- One of the following:
- BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Technology alternatively relevant experience with HNC/HND in a Building/Civil Engineering/Construction discipline.
- Several years' experience in at least one project-related discipline (Civil Engineering, Building Construction, etc.)
- Strong knowledge & understanding of civil/building design and construction methodology.
- Strong knowledge of CESMM4
- Assertive and strong personality
- Strong Commercial / Contractual awareness
- Good understanding of CDM Regulations 2015
- Good Environmental Awareness
- Professional Membership of one or more of the following:
- CEng/IEng with the Institute of Civil Engineers
- MCIOB/ICIOB with the Chartered Institute of Building
- MRICS/AssocRICS- Construction Pathways

Desirable
- Infrastructure experience e.g. power sector (Substations, Power generation etc) or Water experience.
- Building Services knowledge.
Compliance Responsibilities - Essential and/or Desirable
Safety
- Project specific training passports i.e. NG Persons training.
- CDM knowledge and experience.
- IOSH Managing safely on sites
- Travel is an essential part of this role and the job holder shall comply with the relevant Driver and Travel policy documents
- Driver awareness training
