Estimator (Flat Roofing & Cladding)
Location: Waltham Abbey, Essex
Salary: Up to £65,000 DOE
About the Company
Our client is a well-established specialist roofing and façade contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality flat roofing, metal roofing, cladding, and façade solutions across a wide range of construction projects. Working on schemes ranging from £200,000 to £4 million+, they are known for their technical expertise, craftsmanship, and long-standing relationships throughout the construction industry. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their team.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders across flat roofing and cladding packages, supporting the business from initial enquiry through to contract award and project handover. This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with strong technical knowledge and a proactive approach to join a respected specialist contractor.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender enquiries, specifications, drawings, and contract documentation.
- Undertake accurate take-offs from construction drawings.
- Prepare detailed and competitive tender submissions.
- Calculate labour, material, plant, subcontractor, and preliminary costs.
- Complete Bills of Quantities and client pricing schedules.
- Produce scope-marked drawings using Bluebeam software.
- Maintain accurate records of tender submissions, RFIs, and tender queries.
- Source and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Attend site visits and client meetings where required.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
- Participate in project handover meetings with commercial, design, and management teams.
- Assist with technical submissions and pre-construction activities on secured projects.
- Work closely with senior management to review and finalise tender submissions.

Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' estimating experience within flat roofing, cladding, façades, or related construction sectors.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Experience pricing projects ranging from £200,000 to £4 million+.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
- Good understanding of current fire safety requirements, non-combustible cladding systems, and cavity barrier solutions.
- Knowledge of thermal performance requirements and U-value calculations.

Flat Roofing Experience
Applicants should have experience pricing and estimating a range of flat roofing systems, including:
- Inverted hot melt systems
- Ballasted, paved, green, and blue roof systems
- Single-ply warm roofs
- Tapered insulation schemes
- Three-layer felt systems
- Cold-applied liquid waterproofing systems
Experience working with manufacturers such as Bauder, Radmat, IKO, Axter, and Kemper would be highly advantageous.
Cladding Experience
Applicants should have experience estimating:
- Aluminium rainscreen cladding systems
- SFS framing systems (Metsec, EOS, or similar)
- CWCT-compliant façade systems
- Fire barriers and cavity barrier systems
- External wall build-ups and façade packages
Desirable
- Experience within standing seam roofing, leadwork, slate, or tiling projects.
- Experience supporting technical and design teams during pre-construction stages.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam estimating software.
