Estimator - New Build & Refurbishment

Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 per annum

Sector: Construction / Multidisciplinary Contractor

Employment Type: Full-time

Hill McGlynn are currently working with a well-established multidisciplinary contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their team, based from their offices in Potters Bar.

The successful candidate will be responsible for estimating a variety of new build and refurbishment projects, working across multiple disciplines and project types. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator looking to join a growing and diverse contractor with a strong pipeline of work.

The Role

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders from initial enquiry through to submission. You will work closely with the pre-construction, commercial and operational teams to ensure projects are priced effectively and delivered within the client's requirements.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Preparing detailed and accurate estimates for new build and refurbishment projects.
  • Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
  • Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Producing detailed tender submissions and pricing breakdowns.
  • Identifying potential risks, opportunities and value-engineering solutions.
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers throughout the tender process.
  • Working closely with the wider commercial and construction teams.
  • Ensuring tenders are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Supporting the business with ongoing pre-construction and estimating activities.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Estimator with a strong background in the construction industry, ideally with experience across both new build and refurbishment projects.

You Will Ideally Have

  • Proven experience working as an Estimator for a main or multidisciplinary contractor.
  • Experience pricing construction projects from drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and subcontractor packages.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working.
  • Relevant construction or commercial qualifications are desirable but not essential.
