Mentored Estimator / Site Engineer Vacancy – Rail & Civils | East Midlands
Can you price a project but want to spend less time travelling and more time developing your career?
I’m working with a major rail and civils contractor that is looking to strengthen its commercial team with an experienced Estimator who understands project delivery and wants to take the next step into estimating.
The business has already secured a number of major contracts, diversified its client portfolio and has ambitious plans to grow by £70m over the next five years. Commercial capability is central to that growth strategy, making this an excellent time to join the team.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for producing accurate cost estimates, proposals, and competitive bids across a diverse range of rail and civils projects, typically ranging from £50k to £4m.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
