Job Title: Estimator

Salary: Dependant on Experience

Location: Leicestershire

Our client is looking to strengthen their projects team with the appointment of an Estimator. The primary task of an Estimator is to secure work for the company at a commercially sensible level which fits the future workload requirements. To be responsible for the preparation of tenders from issued drawings, proposals, specification and related documents. Identify and cost the requirements for materials, labour and manufacturing costs and present in a standard as defined by the Project Files spreadsheet.

The Estimator Role

  • Review the documents issued and initially check the client, scope of works, and programme
  • If these fit with our future workload requirements, then undertake a complete review of the tender documentation
  • Where the tender requires a list of supporting information/tender deliverables, then notify your line manager in good time so that steps can be taken to collate and provide this information for the bid submission
  • Identify and cost the requirements for materials, labour, and manufacturing costs and present in a standard as defined by the Project Files spreadsheet
  • Accurately price the works in detail providing a clear and understandable price which can be viewed and understood not only by the clients but also by any party new to the project including internal staff
  • Where materials and goods are required to be purchased externally, then source quotes in good time to ensure that our tender value is correct and commercially viable
  • If sufficient time is not available to source quotes or suppliers fail to return prices, then discuss this with colleagues and your line manager to ascertain at what level the item should be tendered
  • Bring the tender together in good time so that it can be reviewed prior to issue back to the contractor/client. This should include a list of qualifications, draft programme, and tender letter at the very minimum
  • Undertake a detailed review with colleague and/or line manager to ensure accuracy
  • Present to the client in a format which is compliant with the client’s requirements and provide all supporting information/tender deliverables where necessary
  • Collate and formally handover a completed Project File with the Contracts Manager and provide ongoing support where necessary
  • To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines where appropriate
  • To understand and comply with the Company Policies covering Sustainability, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and the Environment
  • To understand and comply with the Employee Handbook
  • To carry out any other such duties or responsibilities that may be reasonably required and that are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this position.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
