Your new company

You will be joining an award-winning and well-established civil engineering contractor based in Derby. This multi-accredited and leading contractor operates across the energy, commercial and industrial sectors, delivering projects valued up to £10m for an array of high-profile clients, and offers excellent opportunities for career progression and professional development. As part of their continued growth, they are actively seeking an experienced Estimator to join their pre-contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful and growing principal contractor with a family-like feel.

This is a full-time permanent position based out of their Derby office with flexible working arrangements.

Working hours: 8:45am - 5:15pm (with a 1-hour lunch), Monday - Friday

Your new role

As Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing and submitting competitive tenders and budgets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company standards and client requirements. You'll work closely with internal departments, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather essential data, assess project costs, and support the delivery of high-quality bids. You'll also supervise junior staff and contribute to their development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing detailed tenders and estimates in line with company procedures.
  • Conducting site visits to assess conditions and gather relevant data.
  • Liaising with clients, designers, and internal teams to understand project requirements.
  • Obtaining quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety legislation and company policies.
  • Supporting contract handovers and maintaining quality control throughout the estimating process.
  • Promoting positive client relationships and representing the company professionally.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successful, you must have:

  • Proven experience estimating within groundworks, drainage, concrete structures and/or general civil engineering works
  • Ability to estimate from first principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Sound numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence.
