Estimator: Civil Engineering

A leading privately owned UK civil engineering and building contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its growing pre-contract team.

The business delivers projects across the energy, industrial and commercial sectors, typically ranging from GBP500k to GBP10m.

The Role

You will prepare competitive tenders and detailed cost estimates, working closely with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and operational teams from enquiry through to contract award.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications and contract conditions.
  • Preparing estimates and tenders from first principles.
  • Producing quantities, activity rates and tender summaries.
  • Pricing labour, plant, materials and subcontract works.
  • Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Carrying out site visits and assessing project risks.
  • Developing construction methodologies with Contracts and Operations teams.
  • Supporting tender reviews, handovers and contract awards.
  • Ensuring estimates meet company, health and safety and quality requirements.

Experience Required

  • Previous estimating experience within civil engineering, construction or building.
  • Experience across areas such as industrial buildings, drainage, concrete structures and civil engineering.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, labour and plant outputs.
  • Experience with first-principles estimating and subcontract procurement.
  • Knowledge of NEC3, JCT or ICE contracts would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with CESMM, Builders Quantities or other measurement methods.
  • Degree/HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline preferred.
  • Strong commercial, analytical and communication skills.
