Job Description
Estimator / Design Engineer
£40,000 - £48,000 + Three-Year Progression Plan + Bonus + Excellent Company Benefits
Cookstown, Northern Ireland
Are you an Estimator / Design Engineer or similar looking to take the next step in your career and move into a broader technical role based around growth and progression with a clear three-year progression plan built around your salary, status, and career goals?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing Cookstown technical team where you will be involved far beyond basic pricing. You will work closely with CAD Detailers, Project Engineers, Structural Engineers, and Design teams, giving you a broader understanding of the full project journey from enquiry and technical review through to quotation, handover, and delivery.
The team is being built around a small, self-sufficient structure, giving you genuine visibility, responsibility, and access to senior decision-makers. You will also be given a clear three-year progression plan, mapping out where you are now, where you want to get to in terms of responsibility and earnings, and the milestones needed to achieve it.
The Role
- Produce take-offs, quotations, and technical schedules from construction drawings and specifications
- Review client enquiries, drawings, and project information to prepare accurate pricing
- Work closely with CAD Detailers, Project Engineers, Structural Engineers, and internal technical teams
- Clarify scope, variations, and technical requirements with contractors and internal teams
- Prepare handover information for project delivery teams
- Support live project changes, variations, and commercial updates where required
- Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing information, and project pipeline data

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
