Estimator – Groundworks & Civil Engineering
📍 Projects across Essex & Cambridgeshire | Permanent
💷 £55,000–£75,000 depending on experience + package
Know what groundworks really cost to deliver? Put that judgement at the centre of the tender. Take packages from drawings and take-offs through to submission, with scope for support and a handover from the existing experienced estimator.
The opportunity
Join an established groundworks and civil engineering contractor delivering predominantly education projects, alongside commercial and specialist civils schemes.
This is a long-term addition to the estimating team. Whether you’re already an established Estimator or have around four to five years’ relevant experience and are ready for greater responsibility, the business is looking for practical knowledge, not just the ability to produce a number.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What you’ll manage
- Take-offs and pricing: review drawings and specifications, measure quantities and build up labour, plant and material costs.
- Quotations and tender risk: obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor prices, identify opportunities and flag anything needing clarification.
- Submissions and handovers: prepare accurate, commercially considered tenders and support the transition into delivery.
What you’ll bring
- Estimating experience in groundworks or civil engineering, with a clear understanding of construction methods and the resources needed to deliver the work.
- You’ll be comfortable interpreting tender information, checking what quotations include and explaining the assumptions behind your pricing. The priority is sound technical grounding and an interest in building a future with the business.
