This role suits someone with practical estimating experience within an Independent Connection Provider (ICP), a grid connections business or an electrical infrastructure contractor.
The Role
You will assess tender enquiries, establish the scope of works and prepare cost estimates covering electrical connections and associated civil engineering packages. Key Responsibilities

- Identify contestable and non-contestable works and clearly define package boundaries, exclusions and interfaces.

- Price LV/HV cable routes, trenching, ducting, jointing, terminations, substations, switchgear, transformers, earthing and associated civil works.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, checking technical compliance, scope coverage and lead times.
- Develop pricing assumptions and construction methodologies with the delivery team.
- Identify commercial risks, missing information and opportunities to improve value without compromising the specification.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
