Role Description

The Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Dundee. This position is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects by reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Performing quantity take-offs
  • Requesting and analyzing supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Developing detailed cost breakdowns and tender submissions

The Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers and site teams to ensure budgets are realistic, risks are assessed, and pricing reflects current market conditions. The role also involves:

  • Updating cost databases
  • Maintaining records of estimates
  • Supporting value engineering and cost-control activities throughout the project lifecycle

Qualifications

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience in construction estimating or quantity surveying, ideally within building or civil engineering projects.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and general IT tools (e.g., Excel, MS Office).
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
  • Relevant qualification in construction, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and current market rates; familiarity with UK building regulations is an advantage.
  • Commitment to ethical practices, health and safety standards, and continuous professional development.
