ROLE PURPOSE
Decron is a specialist roofing, cladding, rainscreen, and fire remediation contractor with an annual turnover of circa £12m+. The Estimator (Metal & Flat Roofing) is a key role within the Commercial team, responsible for producing accurate, competitive, and commercially sound estimates for metal and flat roofing packages, from initial enquiry through to tender submission.
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the role plays a direct part in winning profitable work for Decron and in setting projects up for successful delivery by ensuring estimates are built on accurate quantities, realistic pricing, and a clear understanding of buildability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating & Tendering
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for metal and flat roofing packages, from enquiry through to final tender submission.
- Carry out detailed take-offs and measurement from drawings, specifications, and site information to establish accurate quantities.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers/subcontractors, ensuring best value and commercial competitiveness.
- Build up rates for labour, plant, and materials specific to metal and flat roofing systems.
- Assess tender documentation to identify scope, risk, exclusions, and qualifications required in the submission.
- Prepare clear, well-presented tender submissions within client deadlines.
Technical & Commercial Input
- Review drawings and specifications to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective metal and flat roofing build-ups and systems.
- Work with the Technical Manager and Draughtsman to resolve technical queries and buildability issues during the estimating stage.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions that improve competitiveness without compromising quality or compliance.
- Maintain awareness of current metal and flat roofing products, systems, manufacturer guidance, and market pricing.

Handover & Collaboration
- Support a smooth and accurate handover of won projects from Estimating to the Operations & Contracts Director and site delivery teams.
- Work closely with the Estimating Manager, Estimator (Facades), and Quantity Surveyor to ensure consistency of approach and pricing across the Commercial team.
- Liaise with clients, main contractors, and supply chain partners during the tender process, representing Decron professionally at all times.
- Contribute estimating and pricing input to pre-qualification questionnaires and framework submissions as required.
Process & Reporting
- Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing databases, and tender trackers.
- Provide regular updates to the Estimating Manager on pipeline, tender progress, and win rates.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, and tools within the Commercial department.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Proven estimating experience within metal roofing, flat roofing, or a closely related building envelope discipline.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Confident carrying out take-offs and quantity measurement.
- Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of cost, risk, and margin.
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective communicator, comfortable liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Well organized, able to manage multiple tenders and deadlines concurrently.
- Competent user of Microsoft Excel and estimating software.

Desirable
- Experience estimating fire remediation or rainscreen cladding packages.
- Formal qualification in construction, building surveying, quantity surveying, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with major metal and flat roofing manufacturer systems and specifications.
- Experience working within a contractor of a similar scale that has been through a period of growth.
PACKAGE & BENEFITS
Salary
£45,000 – £55,000 per annum depending on experience
