Estimator – Water, Aviation & Highways

Location: Coventry, West Midlands

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £65,000 + Package

The Role

A leading UK infrastructure contractor is looking for an Estimator to join its pre-construction team in Coventry.

The Estimator will support tender opportunities across water, highways, aviation and wider civil engineering projects, preparing accurate estimates and working closely with suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams.

The role could also suit an experienced Site Manager or construction professional looking to move into estimating and pre-construction.

Estimator Responsibilities

  • Prepare tender estimates from first principles.
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to identify scope, risks and opportunities.
  • Complete quantity take-offs, Bills of Quantities and permanent/temporary works packages.
  • Carry out site visits to assess project conditions and pricing requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Support competitive pricing for subcontract and material packages.
  • Compile tender submissions, programmes, schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Work closely with commercial, engineering, procurement and operational teams.
  • Support contract negotiations, tender award and project handover.
  • Analyse estimating data and contribute to reports and dashboards.

Estimator Requirements

  • Experience within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of construction methods, preliminaries and estimating principles.
  • Ability to prepare estimates from first principles.
  • Experience evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Confident interpreting technical drawings and completing quantity take-offs.
  • Understanding of permanent and temporary works.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Strong planning, organisation and communication skills.
  • Degree or relevant construction qualification preferred.
  • Experience with CANDY and Bluebeam is advantageous, although training can be provided.

The Estimator will join an established pre-construction team supporting major UK infrastructure projects across water, highways, aviation and civil engineering.
