Estimator or Senior Estimator

A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint an Estimator or Senior Estimator to join its growing work-winning team based in Barnsley.
The business delivers a wide range of infrastructure and engineering projects across sectors including civil engineering, rail, highways, utilities, environmental and infrastructure frameworks. With a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming work, this is an excellent opportunity to join a stable and well-established contractor offering genuine long-term career progression.
Your new role
Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estimator or Senior Estimator to support the pre-construction team in the preparation and delivery of competitive tender submissions across a diverse project portfolio.
You will be involved in the full tender lifecycle, working closely with operational, commercial and bid teams to secure future work.
Responsibilities will include:
- Preparing estimates and tender submissions from first principles
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
- Producing accurate cost plans and pricing strategies
- Managing supplier and subcontractor enquiries
- Identifying and assessing commercial risks and opportunities
- Supporting framework submissions and negotiated opportunities
- Preparing tender reports and recommendation documents
- Liaising with clients, stakeholders and internal teams
- Supporting successful project handovers to delivery teams

What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience as an Estimator, Senior Estimator or Pre-Construction professional
- Background within civil engineering, infrastructure, construction, rail, utilities, highways or a related sector
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes
- Ability to interpret technical information and drawings
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel and estimating software
