Estimating Engineer
At Project Better Energy, we’re on a mission to make renewable energy accessible to everyone. Through working together, our goal is to achieve a carbon net-zero, eco-friendly future by providing high-quality products and services.
We are looking for an Estimating Engineer to join our Commercial Solar business, Photon Energy. You will work closely with sales and engineering colleagues to create outline designs, price opportunities and prepare customer proposals that bring together system performance, cost and return on investment.
As your experience grows, you will have the opportunity to work across Commercial New Build, Residential New Build and Commercial Retrofit projects.
Salary: To be confirmed
Shift and working hours: Flexible working is available. Once fully trained, you will be expected to work in the office three days per week.
Location: Reading preferred, with Poole or Rochester also available

Essential Skills & Experience
- A Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree, or an equivalent qualification.
- Graduate-level experience or up to two years of relevant experience.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
- A basic understanding of renewable energy and genuine enthusiasm for the sector.
- Strong numerical skills and close attention to detail when preparing designs and quotations.
- Clear, respectful communication and the ability to work well with customers and colleagues across different teams.
- A reliable, organised approach, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- An understanding of how accurate, efficient work supports customer satisfaction and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the relevant sales colleague to understand each client's requirements.
- Attend client meetings with sales and engineering colleagues when required.
- Create outline solar PV system designs, including design drawings and system performance simulations.
- Price projects from the completed system design using the in-house pricing tool.
- Prepare clear customer proposals covering the design, price and expected return on investment.
- Represent Project Better Energy and promote its products and services professionally.
- Follow company working practices, health and safety procedures, the Quality Management System and all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
