Role Description

The Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Portsmouth. This position is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services. Day-to-day tasks include:

The Estimator will collaborate with project managers and site teams to refine budgets, track costs, and support value engineering decisions. The role also involves maintaining estimating databases and templates, meeting deadlines for bids, and communicating clearly with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in construction estimating, including quantity take-offs and cost analysis for repair, maintenance, new build, and refurbishment projects.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Excel and familiarity with estimating or construction management software.
  • Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, building regulations, and industry standards, preferably within the UK market.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with project managers, site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in a similar estimator or quantity surveying role within a construction company is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant technical qualification in construction, quantity surveying, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
