Role Description

The Estimator role at AK Fire Protection Ltd is a full-time, on-site position based in Rotherham with the opportunity to work remotely occasionally. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for passive fire protection works.
  • Quantifying materials and labor.
  • Requesting and analyzing supplier quotes.
  • Preparing clear proposals and bid documents.
  • Coordinating with project managers, site teams, and the commercial department to ensure estimates reflect project requirements, methodologies, and schedules.
  • Updating and maintaining costing data.
  • Supporting value engineering.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement in estimating processes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction or fire protection estimating, including reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in measurements, take-offs, and cost breakdowns.
  • Proficiency with estimating or spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel) and general IT skills for document preparation and data management.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams, suppliers, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Organisational and time-management abilities to handle multiple tenders, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, building regulations, or fire protection standards is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant vocational training or a qualification in construction, quantity surveying, or a related discipline is an advantage.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt to company procedures, and develop expertise in passive fire protection systems.
