The Professional Game Academy Physiotherapist
The Professional Game Academy Physiotherapist will lead and deliver high-quality physiotherapy and medical provision across the PGA, ensuring the health, wellbeing and physical development of players is appropriately supported.
Role Responsibilities
The role will be responsible for the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of player injuries and illnesses, alongside injury prevention, screening and return-to-play processes.
Working closely with the Academy Manager, First Team Lead Physiotherapist, Sports Therapist, Strength & Conditioning staff, coaches and wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), the postholder will help ensure players receive appropriate, individualised care within a safe and high-performing academy environment.
What You Can Expect to Get Involved In
- Provide high-quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for academy players, supporting safe and effective return to training and competition.
- Deliver appropriate pitch-side medical support at training and matches, including the assessment and management of acute injuries and medical emergencies.
- Maintain accurate medical records, communicate appropriately with players, parents/guardians and relevant staff, and follow Club, FA, safeguarding and medical policies and procedures.
- Work closely with coaching, strength & conditioning and medical staff to support individual player development, injury prevention and availability.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the academy medical service, including screening, injury-risk reduction and education for players and staff.
- Be proactive in continued professional development.

About You
Essential
- Sports Therapists must hold a degree in Sports Therapy and have full membership of the Society of Sports Therapy.
- In-date professional indemnity insurance.
- Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF).
- UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) Clean Sport Essentials + / Introduction to Clean Sport.
- Valid FA Safeguarding Children Certificate.
- Valid FA DBS.
- A desire to coach and impact positively on the development of female footballers.
- Understanding of the female talent pathway.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
Desirable
- Physiotherapist – Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered.
- Knowledge of child development.
- Experience of working within the women’s and girls talent pathway.
- Proven track record of inspiring and working with children and young people.
