IBM DataStage Engineer

We are seeking an experienced IBM DataStage Engineer to design, develop, enhance, and support enterprise ETL and data integration solutions within a regulated banking environment. You will be responsible for delivering reliable, scalable, and high-quality data pipelines using IBM DataStage, working closely with Business Analysts, Data Architects, DBAs, infrastructure teams, and downstream data consumers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain ETL jobs and sequences using IBM DataStage.
  • Develop end-to-end data pipelines from source systems into data warehouses and downstream platforms.
  • Build and maintain robust, reusable, and scalable DataStage components.
  • Produce ETL design documents, source-to-target mappings, and technical documentation.
  • Perform data profiling, validation, and reconciliation to maintain high levels of data quality.
  • Optimise DataStage jobs for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve ETL failures, data issues, and production incidents.
  • Support critical batch processes and production data flows.
  • Work closely with DBAs, UNIX teams, schedulers, application teams, and wider data teams.
  • Support deployments and controlled releases across development, test, and production environments.
  • Lead ETL design reviews and contribute to technical and architectural decisions.
  • Mentor junior developers where required.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to banking controls, SDLC standards, and change management processes.

  • Strong hands-on commercial experience with IBM DataStage, ideally DataStage 11.x.
  • Strong experience developing DataStage Parallel Jobs.
  • Strong understanding of ETL and Data Warehousing principles.
  • Strong SQL / PL-SQL skills.
  • Experience with UNIX / Shell scripting.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and data modelling.
  • Experience working with:
    • Transformer stages
    • Lookups
    • Change Capture
    • Sequential Files
    • Data Sets
    • Column Generator
    • Job parameterisation
    • Shared containers
    • Reusable DataStage components
  • Experience connecting DataStage to databases such as Oracle, Teradata, and/or DB2.
  • Strong ETL troubleshooting and performance-tuning experience.
  • Experience working within enterprise-scale data environments.
