European New Plant/Product (NPP) Licensing Director

Summary

The European New Plant/Product (NPP) Licensing Director will establish the vision and strategy for Regulatory Affairs to accelerate licensing needs for deploying new technologies in Europe and beyond North America. This senior leader will oversee multiple product licensing efforts, including managing strategic initiatives to expedite the commercialisation of our disruptive small modular reactor (BWRX-300).

Reporting directly to the General Manager of Nuclear Programs, the role demands leadership for new plant and product licensing activities in GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) and GE Nuclear Energy (GNF). The successful candidate must:

  • Lead strategic licensing efforts for European customers
  • Build and mentor high-performing teams
  • Manage cross-functional collaborations (product, project management, engineering, and senior leadership)
  • Work in tandem with the North America NPP Licensing Director to align regulatory strategy
  • Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships with regulators, customers, and industry bodies
  • Review, approve, and submit regulatory documents
  • Ensure compliance with GE’s internal quality programs

Occasional travel is required.


About the Role

The European NPP Licensing Director will spearhead the licensing process for next-generation technologies while championing GE Vernova’s commitment to safety, innovation, and decarbonisation.


Responsibilities

For New Plants & Products

  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of licensing strategies for European customers
  • Serve as the primary liaison with European nuclear regulators and international working groups
  • Provide expert insights into international nuclear regulations applicable to our portfolio
  • Direct licensing managers, engineers, and project managers across Europe
  • Monitor changes in nuclear regulations and ensure compliance with GEH/GNF requirements
  • Maintain licensing documentation and regulatory records
  • Oversee nuclear inspections/audits and resolve licensing/compliance issues
  • Align Regulatory Affairs with broader GEH/GNF teams and external partners (e.g., IAEA, WISE)
  • Manage the licensing budget
  • Enforce compliance with GEH’s Quality Program

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline (from an accredited institution) or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive experience in nuclear licensing, design, and operations
  • Proven track record in a leadership/managerial role with significant responsibility
  • Willingness to travel as required

Eligibility

  • Ability and willingness to obtain/maintain:
    • A site security clearance (with required background checks)
    • An SGI/Safeguards (IAEA) clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with regulatory/governmental agencies
  • Deep knowledge of nuclear regulations, particularly in European markets
  • Demonstrated behaviours aligned with a strong Nuclear Safety Culture (e.g., fostering respect and transparency)
  • Ability to assess regulatory landscape impacts on business and client needs
  • Strong business acumen and financial management capabilities
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with senior executives
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (including technical clarity)
  • Proven project/ Programme management experience
  • Proficiency in PC applications
