Organization Overview
European Action for Ukraine (EAU) is a European advocacy organisation working to strengthen public, political, and institutional support for Ukraine. EAU helps mobilise citizens, students, policymakers, and civil society partners around Ukraine’s defence, reconstruction, democratic future, and long-term place in Europe.
EAU UK is building a more structured advocacy platform to support Ukraine through parliamentary engagement, public communications, policy research, volunteer coordination, and campaign activity. This programme is designed for students, recent graduates, and early-career professionals who want practical experience in international advocacy, UK politics, European security, communications, and civic organising.
We welcome applicants who are committed to Ukraine’s victory, democratic values, and Europe’s long-term security. Prior advocacy experience is welcome but not required. Training, guidance, and mentorship will be provided.
Role Description
EAU UK is recruiting student volunteers to support one of four workstreams: Communications & Media, Parliamentary Engagement, Policy & Research, or Volunteer Coordination. Applicants may indicate a preferred track, but final placement will depend on team needs, experience, and fit.
This is a remote, part-time volunteer opportunity, with potential for occasional in-person activity in London or other UK locations where appropriate. Strong contributors may have opportunities to take on greater responsibility within their workstream over time.
Programme Tracks
1. Communications & Media
Volunteers on this track will help EAU UK communicate clearly, consistently, and effectively with supporters, stakeholders, and the wider public.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Supporting social media content planning and drafting
- Creating graphics, visual messaging, or campaign materials
- Monitoring UK media coverage related to Ukraine, Russia, defence, sanctions, refugees, reconstruction, and European security
- Preparing short weekly updates or media digests
- Helping translate complex policy issues into accessible public messaging
- Supporting campaign communications around parliamentary activity or public advocacy pushes
This track may be a good fit for applicants interested in journalism, communications, digital campaigning, design, public affairs, or media monitoring.
2. Parliamentary Engagement

Volunteers on this track will support EAU UK’s engagement with Parliament, MPs, advisers, committees, APPGs, and relevant UK policy stakeholders.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Monitoring parliamentary debates, questions, votes, committee activity, and statements related to Ukraine
- Tracking MPs, peers, advisers, APPGs, committees, and relevant parliamentary offices
- Supporting outreach to MPs, parliamentary staff, and stakeholder offices
- Helping prepare briefing materials for parliamentary engagement
- Maintaining trackers for Ukraine-related UK policy activity
- Identifying opportunities for EAU UK to engage with relevant parliamentary developments

3. Policy & Research
Volunteers on this track will help EAU UK produce clear, accurate, and useful research to support advocacy and policy work.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Drafting short briefing notes, backgrounders, and research memos
- Conducting research on UK support for Ukraine, defence policy, sanctions, frozen Russian assets, reconstruction, energy security, information warfare, and related issues
- Gathering evidence and examples to support policy recommendations
- Supporting policy drafting and research coordination
- Monitoring think tank, government, parliamentary, and media sources
- Helping turn research into practical advocacy materials
This track may be a good fit for applicants interested in international relations, security studies, European affairs, economics, law, public policy, Russian/Eurasian studies, or Ukraine-focused research.
4. Volunteer Coordination & Operations
Volunteers on this track will help EAU UK build the internal systems needed to grow sustainably.
Possible responsibilities include:
- Supporting onboarding for new volunteers
- Maintaining volunteer trackers, contact lists, task boards, and schedules
- Helping organise workstreams and follow up on action items
- Coordinating meetings, notes, and internal communications
- Supporting recruitment outreach to universities, student societies, and relevant networks
- Helping ensure volunteers are placed into appropriate roles and remain engaged
This track may be a good fit for applicants interested in operations, project management, organising, HR, team coordination, or nonprofit management.

Desired Qualifications
Applicants do not need to meet every qualification. We are especially interested in reliable, thoughtful people who are willing to learn and contribute consistently.
Desired qualifications include:
- Strong commitment to supporting Ukraine and defending democratic values
- Interest in UK politics, European security, Ukraine, international affairs, advocacy, communications, or civil society
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks
- Good judgement, professionalism, and discretion
- Comfort working remotely with a distributed volunteer team
- Willingness to receive feedback and learn new skills
- Research, writing, design, social media, organising, language, or policy experience welcome but not required
- Ukrainian, Russian, French, German, Polish, or other European language skills welcome but not required
Time Commitment
The expected time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per week, though more is welcome for volunteers who wish to take on additional responsibility. We ask volunteers to be realistic about their availability and communicate early if their capacity changes.
Location
This role is remote, with a preference for applicants based in the UK or able to work comfortably with UK time zones. Some London-based or UK-based activities may arise, but in-person participation is not required unless specifically agreed.
What Volunteers Can Expect
Volunteers will gain practical experience in Ukraine advocacy, UK parliamentary engagement, communications, policy research, and civil society organising. They will have the opportunity to contribute to a growing European advocacy platform and help build durable support for Ukraine in the UK.
EAU UK aims to provide meaningful work, clear expectations, and opportunities for volunteers to grow into greater responsibility over time. It is volunteer work, and unpaid, but will often allow for the development of valuable skills that employers may value.
