European Advertising Director
Editorial Bureau is the editorial office behind a luxury quarterly print magazine, launching in partnership with a US publisher. The title is produced in London, designed in New York, and selectively distributed in North America through a unique, controlled distribution platform that no other publisher has access to, reaching an ultra-high-net-worth readership. Its audience is a US-based group of significant means - the people who buy the watches, yachts, aircraft, properties, and art that the luxury world covets.
The magazine is made to the standard of the world's best print titles. We commission stories from leading writers, shoot them on location with original photographers, and specify the finish, paper, and binding for readers who collect beautiful objects. The print run is 15,000 copies per issue, placed directly into the hands of a readership that advertisers in these categories struggle to reach anywhere else. We are now building the European and international sales operation for the magazine's launch.
Role Description
This full-time role, based in London, Paris or Milan, leads advertising and partnership sales for the magazine across Europe and international markets, working alongside the US publisher's sales team. The Commercial Director (Europe and International) will build the title's European and global commercial base from the ground up, with watches and yachting as the two core categories: selling print pages and bespoke content partnerships to the Swiss and independent watch houses, yacht builders, brokers and charter companies, and the agencies that represent them, alongside private aviation, real estate and the wider luxury sector. Connections in fashion and jewelry are also highly valued.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Day to day, this means opening and owning relationships with marketing directors and brand principals, preparing proposals and presentations that reflect the magazine's editorial positioning, production quality, distribution and readership, negotiating and closing deals, managing the pipeline and forecasts, and reporting against revenue targets to the Editor-in-Chief and the US publisher. The Commercial Director works closely with the editorial team in London and the design studio in New York so that every partnership sits comfortably within the magazine's standards and quarterly schedule, and represents the title where the watch and yachting worlds gather: Watches and Wonders in Geneva, the Monaco Yacht Show, the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, as well as Art Basel and Design Miami.

Our Ideal Candidate
- A proven record in advertising, media, or sponsorship sales in luxury publishing or branded content, with revenue targets met or exceeded.
- Direct experience selling to watch and yachting brands is strongly preferred: time at a watch or yachting title, a luxury title with a strong watch or yachting book, or on the brand or agency side of either category.
- Working knowledge of how both categories buy media: the Geneva and Monaco calendars, launch cycles, and the difference between a maison, an independent, and a group brand.
- An established network across fashion and jewelry, with the judgment to place those brands in a magazine whose readers buy their products.
- Experience selling to tourism boards or destination marketing offices, and a feel for how they plan and fund campaigns, is an advantage.
- Strong prospecting, negotiation, and closing skills, and the judgment to pitch a premium print product to a sophisticated buyer.
- Experience working across time zones with a partner or parent publisher is an advantage.
- Comfort working alongside a small team of editors, photographers and designers, and respect for the line between commercial and editorial.
- Organized and self-directed, able to run many accounts and a launch calendar at once, including remotely from the London editorial office.
- Proficiency with CRM tools, sales reporting and basic analytics.
- Fluency in English; French or Italian is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel regularly within Europe and to the US.
- A proactive, resilient, and ethical approach to a fast-moving launch environment.
