The Role at a Glance
As our European Risk & Compliance Manager, you will serve as the critical anchor for safe, controlled expansion across our European markets. Operating as a trusted second-line partner, you will translate complex EU and local regulatory standards into practical, proportionate controls that protect our customers and enable ambitious business growth. In this role, you will balance strategic advisory with independent challenge—ensuring robust governance, strong conduct oversight, and compliance are seamlessly embedded into our products, digital journeys, and regional operations.
What You Will Do
- Frameworks & Obligations: Maintain the European obligations register, permissions map, and jurisdictional compliance framework
- Horizon Scanning: Monitor regulatory change and conduct horizon scanning across relevant EU and local markets
- Market Expansion: Assess market-entry risks and regulatory perimeter considerations for new European jurisdictions
- Risk Register & Oversight: Maintain and challenge the European risk register, risk appetite position, and key risk indicators (KRIs)
- Product & Journey Oversight: Provide second-line review and challenge of product governance and distribution arrangements. Review digital journeys and customer outcomes, including transparency, accessibility, and vulnerable customer considerations
- Monitoring & Remediation: Operate risk-based compliance monitoring activities, tracking findings through to effective closure, and independently verify remediation activities
- Governance & Escalation: Oversee incidents, breaches, complaints themes, root-cause analysis, and partner oversight activities. Produce meaningful management information (MI) and escalate material risks promptly
- Jurisdictional Focus (Germany & Regional): Provide principal second-line oversight for Wrisk Europe GmbH and German insurance distribution activities.

About You
You are a data-driven, commercially astute leader who is technically curious, deeply organised and highly effective at advising senior stakeholders. You combine strong commercial judgement with the ability to work effectively across Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, Insurance and Compliance.
Your Experience and Profile
- Regulatory Expertise: Proven experience in second-line risk management and compliance, with a deep understanding of EU and local European insurance distribution regulations (e.g., IDD, local conduct rules)
- Cross-Border Growth Mindset: Comfortable navigating international expansion, market-entry risks, and multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks across Germany, Ireland, and the wider EEA
- Constructive Challenger: Excellent stakeholder management skills with a track record of acting as a trusted, pragmatic adviser while maintaining the independence required to challenge business decisions effectively
- Customer-Centric Lens: Strong focus on customer outcomes, digital customer journeys, transparency, and the fair treatment of vulnerable customers
- Analytical & Solution-Oriented: Adept at analyzing complex regulatory requirements, identifying root causes in incidents or complaints, and translating them into practical, proportionate controls.
