SHÉLA is a UK-based, women-centred, lesbian-led community organisation creating spaces where lesbian women can connect, share stories, build community, and thrive. We work to increase the visibility, representation, and inclusion of lesbian women through community building, storytelling, events, education, resources, advocacy, research, and partnerships.
Role Description
The Event Coordinator volunteer role is a remote position that supports the planning and delivery of virtual and occasional in-person events. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating event logistics, managing schedules and timelines, communicating with speakers, partners, and participants, and assisting with registration and attendee support. The role also involves contributing to event promotion, maintaining clear documentation, tracking event feedback, and helping to improve processes for future events. This is a volunteer role suitable for individuals who are passionate about equity for queer women and non-binary people and who enjoy organising inclusive, well-run events.

- Demonstrated skills in event planning and event management, including coordinating logistics, timelines, and resources.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Customer service experience, with a focus on providing supportive, respectful, and timely responses to attendees.
- Basic sales or outreach skills, including promoting events and engaging participants and partners.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple tasks, and meet agreed deadlines.
- Comfort working with digital tools for event hosting, communication, and collaboration (e.g., video conferencing platforms, email, shared documents).
- Commitment to LGBTQ+ equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices; lived or professional experience within queer and non-binary communities is an asset.
- Prior experience coordinating events, community programs, or similar initiatives is beneficial but not required.
